To do list: Places to visit, things to see in South Florida
There are many places I have yet to visit in South Florida, so I thought I’d make a to-do list so you can see places I plan to visit (and write about) in the next year.
Here goes:
Shark Valley: This is a place in Everglades National Park that’s about halfway between Miami and Naples. You rent bicycles and ride around a flat, circular road. There’s an observation tower and I’ve heard that you see lots of alligators and birds.
Corkscrew Swamp in search of Painted Buntings: I’ve been to Corkscrew many times, but I’ve never seen a painted bunting. That’s a bird I’d like to see this year.
Eagle Lakes Community Park: I’ve heard that this is a great place to see birds in Naples. It has a one-mile paved walkway, so I’ll have to go for a run there and take some photos to share with you.
Cayo Costa State Park: Hop on a ferry off Pine Island and you’ll get to this park on Boca Grande. I’ve heard it’s great for kayaking, camping, hiking and biking.
Dry Tortugas National Park: This is a cluster of seven islands about 70 miles off of Key West. There used to be a military fort called Fort Jefferson there. Accessible only by boat, you take a ferry from Key West and you can camp overnight if you want to. I’d like to.
That’s just a handful, but enough to get you thinking about your next trip.
